MORE TECHNICAL INFO COMING SOON!

  • Don't try to repair anything if you don't know how. It's better to be safe and take it to a guitar technician.

  • Do not attempt to work on the inside of an amp, as this is extremely dangerous, and will / could void your warranty

Checking pickups inside a guitar / Testing pickups outside a guitar

INSIDE A GUITAR

If the pickup is still in the guitar and wired,  plug the guitar into an amplifier and lightly touch the pickup pole pieces with the metal end of a screw driver...a distinct CLACKING sound should be heard

Alternatively take a cellphone and play some music...then pass the cellpone over the pickup....if the pickup is working the music should be heard through the amplifier

OUTSIDE A GUITAR

If the pickup is outside the guitar and not wired,  take a multi meter and set it to 1 x ohms setting and connect the 2 probes to the 2 wires of the pickup...you should get a reading  of 3 ohms to 12 ohmns +_ depending on the strength of the pickup

Tips for traveling musicians

  • Carry extra Cables, extention cables, adaptors, batteries, Strings and Picks

  • Avoid getting water and moisture in contact with your instrument

  • Avoid leaning your guitars againsts chairs or amplifiers, this often dings the neck and could be knocked over

  • Beware of theft of your  instruments

  • Strore your instrument correctly

  • Switch off the Amplifier before connecting / disconnecting

  • Carry backup instrument & amplifier if possible

The phone connector was invented for use in telephone switchboards in the 19th century and is still widely use in its original configuration.

The outside diameter of the "sleeve" conductor is 1⁄4 inch (exactly 6.35 mm). The "mini" connector has a diameter of 3.5 mm (approx. 1⁄8 inch) and the "sub-mini" connector has a diameter of 2.5 mm (approx. 3⁄32 inch).

In electronics, a phone connector is a common family of connector typically used for analog signals, primarily audio. It is cylindrical in shape, typically with two, three or four contacts. Three-contact versions are known as TRS connectors, where T stands for "tip", R stands for "ring" and S stands for "sleeve". Similarly, two- and four-contact versions are called TS(mono) and TRRS connectors respectively.
